Danish invasion!

This weekend we had visitors from the North! Wonderful Smith friends and new friends studying in Denmark came to stay for a couple days on their big European adventure. It was great to see old friends and make new ones and to play tour guide through our fabulous city. Much of this involved Cara, fellow Ziskindite, and I taking pictures of each other taking pictures of each other taking pictures of each other taking pictures of each other...

In the morning we took them to the Feldstraße Flohmarkt, walked around the Sternschanze, ate falafel and döner, and went to the Sanktnikolaikirche (War memorial that I talked about earlier) to read histories and go up in the glass elevator (see photo).

Walking from the church to the harbor, we saw a huge parade of bikers in Halloween costumes filling one of the lanes in the street. They were most excited and we were most amused.

We then took a peek at the old, old Deichstraße houses, which were very, very tilted.

This trio was playing old music makers along the harbor to make money for a childrens' cancer society. The gentleman enjoyed tipping his hat at the contributers, most gentlemanly.

By the time we got to the harbor, we were thoroughly chilled because of the cold and wind, so we escaped the great outdoors for a few moments by walking through the Elbe tunnel. This is a picture of we German and Danish Smithies on the excursion taken from the other side of the harbor.

Once we crossed back over, we were all ready for a little R&R, so we went to our respective homes for some chill time. Katie and Rachel, who were sleeping on my floor, and I shared a most glorious tea and cookie time.

That night brought us to an American Halloween party, hosted by a few of the Smithie "big sisters," mine included. It was much, much fun!

We slept in the next morning and then got coffee (or in my case - Belgian orange hot chocolate) downtown before I had to abandon everyone to do some of the giant pile of homework that had been looming over my head all weekend. I managed to get some done before my long evening rehearsal, but I fear my once-ample freetime shall be shortly disappearing for the duration of the semester. It was nice while it lasted.

Oh, and my character in the play is now Russian. Mmmm, wodka.
